It has the volume for a midsize gathering.
TechGearLab measured 99.8 dB, close to the 100 dB shown in its comparison table. This is not a small background speaker.
“This powerful little boombox brings the party at 99.8 decibels, which is almost as loud as the front row at a summer music festival.”See this real test on TechGearLabTechGearLab · Boom 2 · volume
The last stretch of volume costs clarity.
In the same test, the highest setting brought audible compression. Loud is the strength; clean playback at maximum is the tradeoff.
“Unfortunately, we experienced some jarring compression when listening at the highest volume.”See the maximum-volume note in the same TechGearLab testTechGearLab · Boom 2 · maximum volume
It can outlast the advertised day under controlled settings.
SoundGuys used the same 50% volume, lights-off and BassUp-off conditions as the 24-hour claim. Its unit played for 27 hours and 8 minutes.
“In our standardized battery test, we were able to squeeze a whopping 27 hours and 8 minutes of playback time out of the Boom 2 using those same settings.”See this real battery test on SoundGuysSoundGuys · Boom 2 · battery
BassUp and the light show spend that battery faster.
PCMag says the 24-hour estimate assumes 50% volume with both features off. It also measured the practical wait differently: about 5.5 hours from empty.
“Using those extras will drain the battery much faster. It takes roughly 5.5 hours to charge the speaker from empty.”See this real review on PCMagPCMag · Boom 2 · battery
Pool splashes and a drop in the water are covered.
PCMag translates IPX7 into one meter for 30 minutes with the rear hatch sealed. It also confirms the Boom 2 floats.
“An IPX7 rating means you can submerge the speaker at depths of up to a meter for 30 minutes (as long as the rear hatch is sealed).”See the water test terms in the same PCMag reviewPCMag · Boom 2 · IPX7
Waterproof does not mean dustproof.
Trusted Reviews notes that the X in IPX7 leaves dust ingress unrated. Poolside is supported; loose sand needs more care.
“The Soundcore Boom 2 has an IPX7 rating, which means it’s completely waterproof but isn’t rated for protection against dust ingress.”See this real review on Trusted ReviewsTrusted Reviews · Boom 2 · design
